next part of the workflow is to create and manage medication orders from a new encounter the new encounter view within the new encounter view, actions can be taken to add new orders to the medchart when you create a new encounter you will see a medchart option in the action panel the bottom half of the screen displays a similar view to the main emr medchart view refer to that section of this document for further details note if you know the patient has no adverse reactions to medications you can tick the no adverse reactions tick box on the right side of the screen this means you will not need to check the problem list each time you write a medication order if you subsequently add an adverse reaction later, this box will automatically untick and be disabled scenario 1 writing a new medication order create a new encounter in the action panel click on medchart , the details of the patient's existing medication orders will be displayed in the bottom half of the screen (as per above) it's important to note that the view will default to display current medication orders to view discontinued or the patient's full medchart history click on the down arrow next to current and select as appropriate click on the down arrow next to the new icon to select the type of new order you wish to make the mims formulary window appears, search for the medication you wish to order by typing in the search field and clicking the rx button (or press enter) the list of possible medications is displayed expand the tree and select the applicable order by clicking on one of these icons any medications ordered previously by the logged in user (for any patient) will be shown in bold text, the description will show the details of the description and be displayed as for any medication that you have not ordered before the description will be displayed as double click on the relevant item to create the order instructions refer to the creating and managing a medication order from a half of the screen an activity link is created and displayed in the top right column of the encounter complete the content of your encounter and save and close it the new ordered medchart item is now saved in the encounter as a hyperlink click on the hyperlink to view the details of the order the medchart item will now also be displayed in the emr medchart view and the relevant filter in the work centre medchart view scenario 2 issuing a repeat create a new encounter in the action panel, click on medchart , the details of the patient's existing medication orders will be displayed in the bottom half of the screen (as per above) note that the view will default to display current medications to view discontinued or full medchart history click on the down arrow next to current and select as appropriated single click to select the line of the order you wish to enter the repeat for if you would like to issue a repeat of the expiring medication (rather than discontinue it) you can click on the repeat icon in the toolbar the following window appears, click yes to continue profile will discontinue the current order and automatically duplicate it to issue the repeat the order discontinue window is displayed with the current date and time defaulted select the appropriate reason for discontinuing the medication from the drop down list a new line is now displayed showing the repeated the screen (as per above) it's important to note that the view will default to display current medications to view discontinued or full medchart history, click on the down arrow next to the current drop down, and select as appropriate single click to select the line of the order you wish to discontinue if you would like to discontinue the medication (rather than repeat it) you can click on the discontinue icon in the toolbar the following window is displayed, click yes to continue the order discontinue window is displayed with the date and time defaulted select the appropriate reason for discontinuing the medication from the dropdown box and enter a comment if applicable the discontinued medication disappears from the current list displayed to see all discontinued medications, you can
