profile these details will be covered below scenario 1 create new medication order from the medchart view go to medical record and medchart view of an applicable patient click on the down arrow next to the new icon to select the type of new order you wish to make the mims formulary window appears, search for the medication you wish to order by typing in the search field and clicking the rx button (or press enter) the list of possible medications is displayed click on a cross to expand the tree and select the applicable order any medications ordered previously by the logged in user (for any patient) will be shown in bold text, the description will show the details of the description and be displayed as for any medication that you have not ordered before, the description will be displayed as double click on the relevant item to create the order instructions the following fields can be selected field name functionality type if the medication is regular usual, regular occassional, prn or standing method face to face, a phone or third party order or via fax, email or electronic take auto populates based on the medication you have selected from the mims formulary generic tick to change the selected medication to it’s generic version this will automatically change the take field brand substitution not permitted tick if you will not allow branded medication to be substituted dose type select from normal, reducing, sliding scale, stat or variable 24 hour max for prn order, the maximum doses that can be administered 24 hours prn auto ticked when prn order type is selected stat immediate administration dose mandatory – select numerical value and select dose from drop down freq mandatory – drop down with frequency options route if medication should be administered as intradermal, intramuscular, intravenous, oral or subcutaneous dose text free type field to enter instructions details open free text window, enter instructions if they do not fit in the dose field only tick box if medication order is variable, reducing or sliding scale to exclude the dose and frequency fields as they are not required start mandatory medication start date duration enter numerical value and select from drop down if the medication should be taken for days, weeks, months or years end mandatory – auto populates if duration is entered select from calendar auto end if the medication should not be repeated after this order, tick box this will change the status of the order to “discontinued” (rather than expired) once the end date is reached indication condition from the patient’s problem list can be selected from the drop down, or enter a new indication – click the ellipses and search for the disease code to problem list when a new condition has been entered as the indication this tick box will appear tick to add the condition to the patient’s problem list date defaults to today ordered defaults to the logged in user select internal to enter the name of the orderer if they work in your organisation select external to enter the name of another provider who is recorded in your external providers lis complete the relevant fields and click ok to save and close the order will be added to the list showing in the bottom half of the screen scenario 2 create a new ad hoc medication order from the medchart view go to medical record and medchart view of an applicable patient click on the new ad hoc order icon and select the relevant order type the new ad hoc order window appears complete the relevant fields method dose frequency route end date note to save the ad hoc order as a template, you can tick the remember check box the next time you order the same medication, you can select the create a new ad hoc order using templates icon and you will be presented with a list of prviously ordered ad hoc medications to select from click ok to save and close the window the new medication order will now be displayed in the medchart list for the patient scenario 3\ view existing medchart encounters from the medchart view within the medchart view you can see medchart entries listed in existing encounters they will appear as a hyperlink that includes the order type, any selected indications, and special instructions these links are located in the encounters tab on the right side of the medchart view the hyperlink can be clicked to view the
