typically, provider groups are used in larger organizations where there are a number of providers that meet certain conditions, such as grouping specialist service types, then the organization may need to set up provider groups the following further explains the purpose of each type of group access rights enables you to define the level of access to specific objects (e g appointments, encounters etc ) for all members of the group at once appointment enables you to view appointment schedules of every provider belonging to the group within the same appointment window a common scenario in which this is helpful is when a patient phones to book an appointment with a skin specialist the appointment schedules for all the skin specialists can be viewed in one window and if the patient's usual skin specialist is unavailable, you can quickly view the schedules of the other skin specialists and book an appointment accordingly a resource that is commonly used by one or more providers can also be made part of the booking system and be viewed as part of one or more multi provider groups see add resource for information on how to set up a resource distribution enables you to assign items for internal distribution, such as tasks, to all members of this group some filter windows also allow you to filter items by a specific distribution group general this type of group has no specific functionality attached it can be useful when there is large number of providers, so they can be grouped according to the organization structure peer group this type of group is used in conjunction with kpi functionality referencing to peer groups follow the steps below to create a provider group in this scenario we will be creating a ‘ general ’ group to track the ‘ lfp providers ’ in your organization as a means of supporting their unique lfp billing process from the main menu select ‘ organization ’, then ‘ people and places ’ the ‘ people and places ’ window will appear under the ‘ organisational structure ’ select your organization’s ‘ place of service (pos) ’ graphical user interface description automatically generated select the down arrow beside the ‘ new group ’ icon on the toolbar to display list of group types and select the appropriate type or alternatively to create the default ‘ general ’ group click the ‘ new group ’ icon (ctl+alt+g) graphical user interface, text, application, email description automatically generated enter a unique ‘ code ’ and ‘ name ’ of your provider group and click the ‘ add ’ button the ‘ select people and places ’ window will appear enter the search criteria by entering the providers ‘code’ or ‘name’ and click the ‘ search ’ button click the ‘ ok ’ button click the ‘ add ’ button once more to add additional providers to the list and once finished click the ‘ ok ’ button your new group will now be available in the provider list as shown below graphical user interface description automatically generated
