# What are Usual Prescriptions?

The Usual Prescriptions list enables you to see what prescriptions a patient is regularly prescribed, and makes prescribing faster on subsequent visits. Usual Prescriptions act as prescribing templates.

Usual Prescriptions can be accessed in either of the following ways:

- Via the **Clinical Details **for a patient, on the **Usual Prescriptions **tab

- However, if the preferences **Allow blank dose, frequency and route for usual prescriptions** and **Allow blank quantity for usual prescriptions** have been enabled under **Preferences/Scripts and Instructions/Interface**, you can save a Usual Prescription without entering values for Dose, Frequency, Route, or Quantity.

This allows for situations where a provider is entering a Usual Script for a patient where they don’t have all the details necessary to order that medication. For example, the patient may be telling them their medication list verbally off the top of their head, and they can’t remember the dose of a given medication.
:::

- Note that, whether or not the above preferences have been enabled, Profile requires that these details be provided before a script can be ordered, to ensure that incomplete prescriptions are not submitted.
::::

:::WorkflowBlockItem
Press **OK **when finished. The new prescription will be added to the list of **Usual Prescriptions**.

2. In the list of **Usual Scripts**, right-click on the script that they no longer need and select **Discontinue **from the context menu.
