Inventory records are updated when stock medication is dispensed, stock vaccine is used for immunization, or sale invoice for the stock item is created.

### Dispensing the Medication

To maintain the Inventory for a specific medication:

1. Create a new stock item for this medication linked with applicable Formulary item (see [Creating a New Stock Item](https://intrahealth.freshdesk.com/solution/articles/6000226286-creating-a-new-stock-item))
2. Record delivery details (see [Recording Stock Delivery](https://intrahealth.freshdesk.com/solution/articles/6000226292-recording-stock-delivery))
3. Prescribe the medication under **New Encounter/Scripts**

4. Select the medication under the **Current Order**
5. Click on **Dispense** button on the **Scripts** toolbar

6. The **Dispense **window will display
7. Review the automatically populated information and make adjustments when necessary. If you dispense less amount that was prescribed, adjust numbers under the **Quantity** and **Dispense** sections
8. Select the batch number and expiry date from the pull down menu
9. Enter the number of stock items currently dispensed
10. Click** OK **to save the information

Sales column displays a negative number equal to the amount dispensed.
