From 1st Feb 2021, a change in the National health (Pharmaceutical Benefits) Regulations for all PBS/RPBS prescriptions will require the inclusion of active ingredient name(s).

This topic sheet will provide steps on how providers can set their Profile preference to show active ingredients in their prescription.

### Set up

There are many ways to customize the behaviour and appearance of the Profile system using preference. For this topic, we will need to change a preference that is applicable for single individuals or all members of a role.

1. Go to **Organisation/ Preferences/ Scripts and Instructions**
2. Click on the **Interface** tab
3. Tick **Prescribe Generic By Default**
4. Click **OK**

### Workflow

Prescribe a script to a patient the usual way.

For new scripts

- In the Formulary window, select the appropriate item and fill up the needed details (e.g. Dose, Freq., Route, etc.)

:::hint{type="danger"}
**Note**

The **Rx** name shows the Active ingredient, even if the Brand name has been selected. (e.g., Allopurinol) **Generic** box is ticked by default.
:::

- The prescription will show the Active ingredient instead of the Brand name.
