from 1st feb 2021, a change in the national health (pharmaceutical benefits) regulations for all pbs/rpbs prescriptions will require the inclusion of active ingredient name(s) this topic sheet will provide steps on how providers can set their profile preference to show active ingredients in their prescription set up there are many ways to customize the behaviour and appearance of the profile system using preference for this topic, we will need to change a preference that is applicable for single individuals or all members of a role go to organisation/ preferences/ scripts and instructions click on the interface tab tick prescribe generic by default click ok workflow prescribe a script to a patient the usual way for new scripts in the formulary window, select the appropriate item and fill up the needed details (e g dose, freq , route, etc ) note the rx name shows the active ingredient, even if the brand name has been selected (e g , allopurinol) generic box is ticked by default the prescription will show the active ingredient instead of the brand name for usual scripts select the script from the usual scripts tab click the open button to open the edit window tick generic and click ok note the rx name changed to its active ingredient (e g , paracetamol) attachments
