This will be a single service that can be scaled for use across the country, enabling prescribers to electronically transmit a prescription to a patient’s pharmacy of choice. The service will provide safer and more effective medication management by connecting community-based prescribers (such as physicians and nurse practitioners) through their existing electronic medical records (EMR), to community retail pharmacies to enable the electronic transmission of prescriptions. PrescribeIT® will reduce the use of paper prescriptions, enhance patient safety, reduce fraud, improve continuity of care, optimize jurisdictional drug information system investments, and facilitate better health outcomes for Canadians. # E-prescribing E-prescribing is the secure electronic creation and transmission of a prescription between an authorized prescriber and a patient’s pharmacy of choice, using clinical Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and pharmacy management software. # Administrative Workflow Administrative workflows for PrescribeIT® in Profile include synchronizing local pharmacy records with the PrescribeIT® pharmacy registry, updating local pharmacy information to match PrescribeIT® pharmacy registry information, and updating patient records with a PrescribeIT® enabled pharmacy for the providers to create ePrescriptions.   ## PrescribeIT® Pharmacy Registry Synchronization The list of PrescribeIT® enabled pharmacies is periodically updated and a system task called Auto Sync Pharmacies has been added to **Organization/System Tasks Explore**r to periodically sync the pharmacy registry to determine if any of the existing and new local pharmacies have been enabled for PrescribeIT or updated. The Information tab in the system task will display the results of the most recent task execution. Full logs can be viewed in **Control Centre/Manage/Import/Export Errors/Logs**.If pharmacies have duplicate fax numbers in Profile, they will not be synchronized. These items can be viewed in **Control Centre/Manage/Import/Export Errors/Logs**. The clinics should enter the accurate fax numbers for the pharmacies.Pharmacies can also be manually synchronized by the clinic in Profile.  There are two methods, based on knowing whether the pharmacy exists locally (i.e., in Profile) or not. ### For Existing Local Pharmacy 1. In the External Providers window, enter the name of the pharmacy in the **Name** field, select **Suppliers** in the **Type** dropdown field, **Pharmacy** in the **Specialty** dropdown field, and press **Search**.    3. Enter the fax number of the pharmacy in the Fax field and press **Search**. Select the desired pharmacy from the resulting list of PrescribeIT® enabled pharmacies.  You can see that the pharmacy is not linked locally in the area below the list.  Because it is not linked, the **Select** button is disabled. 5. Press **New Supplier**. This opens the **New External Provider **window. You can make any desired changes for this local pharmacy record and then press **OK** to save the information. In the confirmation dialog box, press Yes to unlink the local pharmacy from the PrescribeIT® pharmacy registry. ::: ## Local Pharmacy Update You can update existing pharmacy information in Profile with PrescribeIT® pharmacy registry information.  The update includes the pharmacy’s name, address, city, postal code, province, and phone number. 1. Click **Yes** to update the information. ## Preferred Pharmacy Update If the patient prefers to switch to an PrescribeIT® enabled pharmacy from one that isn’t yet, the following steps can be completed. 1. In the **Alter Patient** window, select the **Care Team** view from the segment bar menu.   3. Click in the** Pharmacy-Preferred** field in the Provider column and enter at least the first 3 letters of the pharmacy name to select the new preferred pharmacy from the dropdown list.
