the new zealand universal list of medicines (nzulm) is the standard source of commonly used information about medicines in new zealand it is the primary naming and coding database for medicines in the new zealand health sector it was first officially released for use in 2011 and is free to use it is a dictionary oftrusted, standardised information covering the official, standardised name of a medicine the official code number of a medicine (or part thereof) whether a medicine is approved for use in new zealand what restrictions, if any, apply whether it is subsidised and the level of subsidy any conditions that apply it also includes products listed in pharmac’s hospital medicines list medicines supplied under section 29 of the medicines act some commonly available natural remedies source https //info nzulm org nz https //info nzulm org nz/ this document describes some key features of nzulm and highlights some differences between nzulm and mims ne target audience users who have recently transitioned from mims ne to nzulm requirements before you can start using nzulm, your organisation must have completed the steps described in the \[nz] mime me to nzulm bulk conversion document the document includes information about what is converted from mims ne to nzulm and what is not workflow there is no change in workflows you can continue to use the prescription module in the same way you alwayshave filters there are some key settings in the formulary filter which were previously either not available or not functional when using mims ne subsidized drugs when checked, the search will only return partially or fully subsidized medications product information button when checked, will display in the formulary window consumer information button when checked, will display in the formulary window filter update login as the user who needs to access the filters start prescribing a medication, following your usual workflow in the formulary – nz universal list of medicines window, click edit on the top right the formulary filters window will open make the required changes to the default filter and press update if appropriate, update other filters on the list interactions and allergy warning window the screenshot below shows an example of the warning window in nzulm note interactions are categorised by the level of severity this feature is not available in mims ne click + to view additional information about an interaction for example the warning window will come up when prescribing medications, if appropriate additionally, users can display it at any time by clicking the warning icon available in the following areas new encounter , scripts actions panel, usual scripts tab toolbar new encounter , scripts actions panel, next to the rx field formulary window clicking in the warning window will display the nzdf interaction window with detailed interaction information access to new zealand formulary information for most brand preparations or packages, clicking the nzf button in the formulary window will display specific medication information in the nzf info window some brand preparations or packages do not have nzf information chemicals also do not have nzf information in these cases, an http error message will be displayed when the nzf button is clicked if no drug is selected is selected, clicking the nzf button will display the nzf homepage in the nzf info window the nzf button is available in the following areas new encounter , scripts actions panel, order items toolbar in the formulary window toolbar prescribe by brand drugs nzulm flags medications that should be prescribed by brand only you will only see brand results for these medications, and, in the bottom panel of the formulary window, you will see ' prescribe by brand yes' in the prescription instruction area, the generic checkbox is disabled note this feature is not available in mims ne brand preparation names almost all nzulm brand preparations display the generic name after the brand name product information and consumer medicine information in nzulm formulary, many medications have product information (pi) and consumer medicine information (cmi) enabled in the toolbar of usual scripts or prior scripts of the formulary window click to display the product information of the selected medication click to display the consumer medicine information if there is no pi or cmi available, their respective icons will be disabled or the dialog shown below will display note product information and consumer medicine information are not available in mims ne attachments
