work centre view in profile provides a holistic view of all medication across the patient population it can be used to monitor expiring medications and administer medication to a group of patients monitoring expired medication orders or orders due to expire medication orders are legally valid for 1 year, however your system administrator may have set a shorter time limit, after which time they will expire automatically and will need to be re ordered by the appropriate provider to monitor medication orders which have expired or are due to expire for your patient population carry out the following steps open the work centre and select med chart review from the segment list select the relevant filter from the drop down list it is important to note that filters will be created by your system administrator based on the requirements of your organisation the following screen is displayed listing the applicable patients' details based on the filter you have selected columns displayed are also dictated by the creation of the filter some common columns are as follows single click on the name of the patient to view further details in the bottom half of the screen the left side will display the order details the right side will display links to all encounters in the patient’s medical record related to any of their orders to view the details of the original order click on the view icon in the toolbar note at this point you can decide to either discontinue, repeat or change the expiring medication each of these actions are outlined in the steps below discontinuing medication users who are legally entitled to order medications (doctors, medical officers, nurse practitioners) have the ability to use this functionality in profile users who do not have the ability to order medications (some nurses and administrative staff) only have access to “view” details and cannot ‘edit’ medication details an encounter is automatically be created within the emr for the patient when the medication order is discontinued if the medication is no longer required by the patient, you can click on the discontinue icon in the toolbar the following window is displayed, click yes to continue the order discontinue window is displayed with the date and time defaulted to current these are mandatory fields, and can changed to reflect the date and time you wish to end the medication order (i e future) select the reason for discontinuing the medication from the dropdown box and enter a c omment if applicable the encounter which is automatically created when the medication is discontinued will contain this comment the medication will now show in the work centre med chart view as discontinued issuing a repeat users who are legally entitled to order medications (doctors, medical officers, nurse practitioners) will have the ability to use this functionality in profile all other users (nurses and administrative staff) will only have access to “view” details and cannot ‘edit’ medication details an encounter will automatically be created within the emr for the patient when the medication order is repeated if you would like to issue a repeat of the expiring medication (rather than discontinue it) you can click on the repeat icon in the toolbar the following window appears, click yes to continue profile will discontinue the current order and automatically duplicate it to issue the repeat the order discontinue window is displayed with the current date and time defaulted these are mandatory fields note because profile considers this to be a change, the medication discontinue window will open select the reason for discontinuing the medication as reorder from the dropdown box and enter a comment if applicable the encounter which is automatically created when the medication is discontinued will contain this comment the discontinued order is displayed with a strike out directly underneath the new repeated order appears in italics note when this view is refreshed, the discontinued order and the repeat will disappear changing the current order instructions users who are legally entitled to order medications (doctors, medical officers, nurse practitioners) will have the ability to use this functionality in profile all other users (nurses and administrative staff) will only have access to “view” details and cannot ‘edit’ medication details an encounter will automatically be created within profile for the patient when the medication order is changed if you would like to change the expiring medication (rather than discontinue or repeat it) you can click on the edit icon in the toolbar the change order window is displayed to make the appropriate changes to the order the expired order is now showing as discontinued, and the new order with the changes is displayed in italics note when this view is refreshed, the discontinued order and the repeat will disappear viewing the current order this function is available to users who are able to write, change and discontinue medication orders as well as those who can administer medication if you would like to view the medication (rather than discontinue, repeat or change it) you can click on the view icon in the toolbar the change order window is displayed note if the order has added extra dose information the details button will be highlighted click on details to display the
