# Feature Overview

Ad Hoc prescriptions in Profile allow you to prescribe medications that arent available in the standard formulary, such as newly introduced drugs or custom compounds. Below are three key actions you may need to take when working with Ad Hoc prescriptions.

# Scenario 1: Creating a New Ad Hoc Prescription from Scratch

Use this when the medication is not available in the formulary.

Go to **Medical Record / New Encounter / Scripts**

Click the blue **Create New Ad Hoc Prescription&#xA0;**&#x69;con from the **Order Items** toolbar.

In the **New Ad Hoc Prescription&#xA0;**&#x77;indow, the **Take&#xA0;**&#x66;ield will be blank.

Type the medication name into the **Take** field (e.g. Hydrocortisone 1%).

Add in the **Dose&#xA0;**&#x61;mount and **Frequency&#xA0;**&#x69;n the relevant fields.

If standard dosing does not apply:

1. Tick the **Only&#xA0;**&#x63;heckbox to use **Dose Text** instead of **Dose&#xA0;**&#x61;nd **Frequency&#xA0;**&#x66;ields.
2. Enter custom instructions (e.g., "Apply twice daily").

Input the **Quantity&#xA0;**(e.g., 100 mg).

Once all of the mandatory fields have been entered, you'll notice that the **OK** button is enabled.

(Optional) Configure additional fields:

- **Route&#xA0;**(e.g., PRN for "as required")
- **Brand Substitution Not Permitted**
- **Long-Term Use**

(Optional) Tick **Remember** to save this entry as a reusable template.

Click **OK** to finalise and add the prescription to today's order.

# Scenario 2: Using a Saved Ad Hoc Prescription Template

Use this when you've previously saved a custom medication and want to reuse or adjust it.

1. Click the red **Create New Ad Prescription Using a Template&#xA0;**&#x69;con from the **Order Items&#xA0;**&#x74;oolbar.

2. Choose a saved template from the list (e.g., Hydrocortisone 1%).

3. Double click to modify instructions as needed (e.g., change to Hydrocortisone 2%).

4. Avoid ticking **Remember** if you don't want to save a second version.
5. Click **OK** to apply the updated prescription.

# Scenario 3: Printing an Ad Hoc Prescription

Once a prescription has been added:

Review the Print to PDF printout, which includes:

- Item count
- Clinician and patient details
- Prescription instructions

To manage how prescriptions are printed:

- (Optional) to split the prescriptions:
  1. Select a prescription. 
  2. Right-click and select **Separate Prescription Order**. This will separate each prescriptions into two different print jobs.
- (Optional) to merge two prescriptions into one print job, simply click on a prescription and drag and drop it onto another prescription line item.
