# Overview & Requirements

This article is intended for a System Administrative user who sets up configuration and enables features in Profile. 

The purpose of this article is to explain the configuration process for Profile's enhanced Chat feature. It will cover access; how to enable the toolbar; how to add the Chat icon to the toolbar; as well as how to revert back to the old Chat feature, if needed.

## Requirements

- Version 9.0 and above 

# Configuration 

## Access 

The new enhanced Chat feature will be turned on, by default, in your Profile instance, if you upgrade to Profile versions 9.0 or above. 

## Enable the Toolbar for User Groups

Users can access the Chat feature by clicking on the **Chat** icon in the toolbar. 

If a user does not have access to the toolbar, they will need to be added to a user group that has that functionality enabled. 

1. Go to **Organisation / Roles / Actions** tab
2. Check if the toolbar action is enabled in the appropriate group by selecting the group that the user should be included in. 
3. If the **Organization\Preferences\Customise Toolbar** is enabled it should look like this:

4. Go to the **Users** tab.
5. Select the appropriate group. Its list of users, belonging to that group, will be visible in the **User **View.
6. If the required user is not listed, add the user by selecting the **Add user to the selected role** icon.

7. Search for and select the user in the **Select People and Places **window.

8. The user is now added to the user group.

## Add the Chat Icon to the Toolbar

1. Click on the **More Buttons** downward-facing arrow on the toolbar

2. Select the **Add or Remove Buttons **icon.
3. Select **Customize**.
4. From the **Commands** tab, highlight **Communication** from the **Categories **column.
5. Click on the **Chat **icon from the **Commands** column and drag and drop it onto the toolbar.

6. The icon should now be added to the toolbar.

## Add New Chat Notifications to Work Notifications

1. Go to **Organisation / Preferences/ General / General / Work Notifications **tab.
2. Check the checkbox on **Chat notifications**

3. Click **Apply **to save changes

## Revert Back to the Old Chat Functionality, If Needed

It is possible to switch back to the older version of chat, if you wish to do so.

1. Go to **Organisation / Preferences / General / General / Chat** tab.
2. Select **No** from the** Use new Chat feature** drop down list.

3. Click on **Apply** and **OK** to complete the process.
