# Overview & Requirements

It can be helpful to communicate your availability status, with your colleagues, to indicate if it is an appropriate time to contact you or not. This article will demonstrate the process of how to change your availability status in the enhanced Chat feature. 

## Requirements

- Profile version 9.0 and above.

# Change your Availability Status in Chat

When a user logs in and launches Profile, their Chat status is automatically set to Available. This is default.

If a user wishes to change their status, they can complete the following steps:

1. Click on the **Chat** icon in the main toolbar to open Chat.

OR select **Chat** from your Profile icon

2. Click the drop-down arrow in the **Chats** view to open the list of availability options.
3. Select the option that best suits your status.

4. Your availability status should now reflect your status choice. Other users will now be aware of your Chat availability.
