## eSignature Videos

There are a number of helpful videos located in the Videos folder. [Click here](https://help.intrahealth.com/en/support/solutions/folders/6000243912) to access the videos related to eSignature.

## Feature Capabilities

eSignature has the capability to allow users to capture signatures from both hardware interfaces and user on-screen input using:

- Prescription forms (including Special Authority forms)
- Pathology / Radiology / Other Investigation order forms (including Scanned Investigation forms from Requisition Builder)
- Letters
- Custom forms (CDO forms)

Profile’s eSignature capabilities are available via a licensed module.  This module is included in the Telemedicine and Internet Faxing offerings.  If your practice doesn’t use the Telemedicine licensed module or the Internet Faxing functionality, the eSignature module can also be purchased separately, which entails a monthly fee.  Please contact Intrahealth Support for more information.

Currently, we have only built integration with signature pads by Topaz (models with a 1x5 display).  For more information and to order a signature pad, you can visit their website at [https://www.topazsystems.com/signaturepads.html](https://www.topazsystems.com/signaturepads.html)

The configuration and maintenance should be performed by the system administrator.

## Signature Pad Configuration

Go to **Organisation/Preferences/Technical/Device Interfaces/Signature Pad** tab and check the **Enabled** checkbox. Users or roles who do not have this checked will never get prompted to capture a signature.

:::hint{type="info"}
For organisations which use role-based preferences, see existing documentation about the **Copy To** button to push these configurations to other roles.

:::

In the **Signature Pad** field dropdown menu, select **Topaz (Hardware)** or **On-Screen (Software)**. The green colour of this preference indicates that it is machine/workstation-dependent, rather than user or role-dependent. Any user who uses the computer where this preference is set will use the selected signature pad.

In the **Prompt for digital signatures when** panel, enable the desired preferences for which objects will be able to capture digital signatures.

## Signature Capture

- For Prescriptions, Special Authority forms and Investigation orders, you will be prompted to sign the document once you press the **Print** button and the signature will be printed in the **Signature** field of the form.
- For Letters, the print variable **«Letter.Letter.CaptureSignature»** will need to be added to existing letter templates in order to capture signatures. When a New Letter window is opened, the print variable will be replaced with a **Signature** placeholder image, which is resizable. Once you print the letter, you will be prompted to sign it and the signature will be printed on the letter.
- For CDO forms, a Signature form control will need to be added to the template using the **Pen** icon on the **Control Palette**, to allow the user to sign the form upon printing or for it to be triggered via macro.  The following properties in the **Object Inspector** can be used to configure the behaviour of the Signature control:

**HRI**

If you would like the signature image to be saved with the form, it needs to be linked to an Image-type HRI. The Intrahealth termset includes a term for Provider Signature.

If you do not want the signature saved with the form, don’t link it to an HRI. It will only remain on the form while the user has it open for the purpose of printing.

**SignaturePromptText**

This text will appear in the title bar of the popup dialog for the purpose of identifying what signature is to be captured, if there is more than one signature form control on the form.

::Image[]{src="https://api.qa.archbee.co/api/optimize/zICxj0dnLereb6UUrBA3-/Tj0nC5ABGMnhNzQ1-LRer_ubfr1hzebb82suxy4mzshib4d0xebedhlg.png" size="50" isUploading="false" initialPath="assets/ubFr1HZeBb82SUxY4MZShIB4D0XEbedHlg.png" githubPath="en/User Management and Settings/User Management/assets/ubFr1HZeBb82SUxY4MZShIB4D0XEbedHlg.png" position="flex-start" showCaption="false"}**WhenCaptureSignature**

Choose **Custom**, which will not trigger the signature capture when the user prints the form or **WhenPrinting**, which will trigger the signature capture when the user prints the form.

Both will allow the user of the control’s ISSignature.CaptureSignature COM method to trigger capturing from a macro.

Once a CDO form is printed or the signature capture triggered, you will be prompted to sign it where appropriate and the signature will be placed in the Signature control in the user interface and included in the printed form.

For Investigation Scanned forms (Requisition Builder), the print variable **«Letter.Letter.CaptureSignature»** must be added to the form. In the **Order Format** view for the supplier (External Provider with **Type** set to **Supplier**), select the **Scanned Form** option from the **Format** field dropdown menu, locate the print variable from the list on the left and drag and drop it into the **Signature** field.

Signatures do not save with Prescriptions, Investigation Order forms, Special Authority forms or Letters and the user will be prompted to sign every time the form or letter is printed.

### Topaz Hardware

If the Topaz (Hardware) Signature Pad is selected for the machine and there is a Topaz signature device connected to the machine, the user will see this dialog when the signature is configured to be captured:

::Image[]{src="https://api.qa.archbee.co/api/optimize/zICxj0dnLereb6UUrBA3-/MOc7GFIa6RDIYk3-opoNc_vmoz9ev57zhlz8lpgwcdwb2yo2qyrty3g.png" size="85" isUploading="false" initialPath="assets/VMOz9ev57zHlZ8lpgwCDwB2Yo2qyrt_y3g.png" githubPath="en/User Management and Settings/User Management/assets/VMOz9ev57zHlZ8lpgwCDwB2Yo2qyrt_y3g.png" position="flex-start" showCaption="false"}

1. Use the hardware device to write your signature while this dialog box is open.
2. Press **Done** to continue with the workflow or press **Continue without Signature** to bypass the signature capture and continue with the workflow, for example, printing the prescription. Press **Cancel** to cancel the workflow.

:::hint{type="info"}
Press **Use On-Screen (Software) Signature Pad** to switch from the Topaz (Hardware) Signature Pad.

:::

The signature pads by Topaz are only supported using the Rich Client app.

:::

### On-Screen Control

If the On-Screen (Software) Signature Pad is selected for the machine, the user will see this dialog when the signature is configured to be captured:

1. Use your mouse or touchscreen to write your signature in the Signature field. Use the Trashcan to clear the signature, if necessary, and start again.
2. Press **OK** to continue with the workflow or press **Continue without Signature** to bypass the signature capture and continue with the workflow, for example, printing the prescription.  Press **Cancel** to cancel the workflow.
