Documenting Medication Administration Using Careflow
====================================================

Once a provider has [created and viewed a new medication order - or a new ad hoc order in MedChart](docId\:l7lXSS8mxmF9dPIoxx_5J), the next step is to document the medication administration using Profile's Careflow feature. This can be done by following the steps outlined in the workflows below:

Scenario 1: Documenting Regular (Routine) Medication Administration with Careflow
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Scenario 2: Documenting Irregular (PRN) Medication Administration with Careflow
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

### Step 1: Identify PRN Medications

1. Identify the irregular or PRN medication you wish to administer. In Careflow a PRN medication is indicated by the blue \[PRN] label before the medication name.

::Image[]{src="https://api.qa.archbee.co/api/optimize/zICxj0dnLereb6UUrBA3-/oM7Dn7zbO7IhKKiVNO4Pq_wordhgfcbxyzn3ec43u4oiwla7ojlrukg.png" size="26" isUploading="false" initialPath="assets/woRdHgFCbxYzn3Ec4_3u4OIwLa7oJLrukg.png" githubPath="en/Medication Management/Administering and Dispensing/assets/woRdHgFCbxYzn3Ec4_3u4OIwLa7oJLrukg.png" position="flex-start" showCaption="false" indent="2"}

### Step 2: Open the Administer Window

1. You can open the **Administer **window using one of the following methods listed in the table below:

| Action                                        | Outcome                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    |

| Selecting a PRN line | Will enable the Administer button on the toolbar. Clicking the button opens the Administer window, with the date and time set to the current time. |

### Step 3: System Check Before Administering

Before the Administer window opens, the system evaluates whether the administration falls within the acceptable interval.

::Image[]{src="https://api.qa.archbee.co/api/optimize/zICxj0dnLereb6UUrBA3-/eogNjI_kha0-XEBQgIUGJ_wcxzktbqv2tmbjwrngxywzuyuzbhdsekua.png" size="80" isUploading="false" initialPath="assets/wcXZKTbQV2tMBjWRNGXywZuYUZbhdSeKuA.png" githubPath="en/Medication Management/Administering and Dispensing/assets/wcXZKTbQV2tMBjWRNGXywZuYUZbhdSeKuA.png" position="flex-start" showCaption="false"}

### Determine Administration Interval

::::WorkflowBlock
:::WorkflowBlockItem
Check if Timeliness is specified in the medication instruction.

1. Use that value if available.

::Image[]{src="https://api.qa.archbee.co/api/optimize/zICxj0dnLereb6UUrBA3-/HmPOnUZAyoKWWYdsfjyz5_f5iswtf1kuv0emgdkeo4dyecbgo9bfjw.png" size="100" isUploading="false" initialPath="assets/F5_iSWtf1KUv0emGdk_EO4dyEcBgO9bfJw.png" githubPath="en/Medication Management/Administering and Dispensing/assets/F5_iSWtf1KUv0emGdk_EO4dyEcBgO9bfJw.png" position="flex-start" showCaption="false" indent="2"}
:::

:::WorkflowBlockItem
If not, check the organisation's frequency-based timeliness settings:

1. Navigate to:**Organisation / Preferences / Scripts & Instructions / Administration **tab

::Image[]{src="https://api.qa.archbee.co/api/optimize/zICxj0dnLereb6UUrBA3-/FXpJcxKQSkLr5V1Q7kWds_jzrc3abrp7fmllohkadadshf6ko34a9w.png" size="100" isUploading="false" initialPath="assets/jZrc3aBRP7FmLLOhK_a_Dadshf6KO34a9w.png" githubPath="en/Medication Management/Administering and Dispensing/assets/jZrc3aBRP7FmLLOhK_a_Dadshf6KO34a9w.png" position="flex-start" showCaption="false" indent="2"}
:::

:::WorkflowBlockItem
If still not found, use the system default timeliness value.

::Image[]{src="https://api.qa.archbee.co/api/optimize/zICxj0dnLereb6UUrBA3-/lTXEx3y52FdIg2cJVuBM7_3xamdos7yw0yp0kb6q8xcbil19k80tjhg.png" size="80" isUploading="false" initialPath="assets/3XAmDOs7yW0Yp0kB6Q8xcbIl19k80_tjhg.png" githubPath="en/Medication Management/Administering and Dispensing/assets/3XAmDOs7yW0Yp0kB6Q8xcbIl19k80_tjhg.png" position="flex-start" showCaption="false"}

Warning for Early Administration
:::

:::WorkflowBlockItem
If the proposed administration time is too close to that last completed dose (i.e., less than the determined interval), the system shows a warning.
:::
::::

Example:

- Frequency: "5 times per day" means that the Interval = 4h 48m (24h ÷5)
- Last administration: 5:47 AM
- Next expected: 10:35 AM (5:47AM + 4h 48m).
- If timeliness for the instruction is 15 minutes, then Profile will show a warning like the one above if a new administration is attempted with a date/time that's before 10:20AM.
