# Creating and Managing a Medication Order from a New Encounter

Once a provider has reviewed the patient's authorised medications in MedChart (see[Review the MedChart for a Patient in Profile](docId\:AbzJD_iwqxZfNeby0K5vP)for details) the next part of the workflow is to create and manage medication orders from a New Encounter.

## The New Encounter View

Within the new encounter view, actions can be taken to add new orders to the MedChart. When you create a new encounter you will see a MedChart option in the Action Panel.

![](https://api.qa.archbee.co/api/optimize/zICxj0dnLereb6UUrBA3-/WwsGvGOFf_wsRdjqH_Da1_f25-duiynjptmsjf2ylwvnzqblfwvehplg.png)

The bottom half of the screen displays a similar view to the main EMR MedChart view. Refer to that section of this document for further details.

:::hint{type="info"}
**Note: **If you know the patient has NO adverse reactions to Medications you can tick the No Adverse Reactions tick-box on the right side of the screen. This means you will not need to check the problem list each time you write a medication order. If you subsequently add an adverse reaction later, this box will automatically untick and be disabled.

:::

## Scenario 1: Writing a New Medication Order

1. Create a **New Encounter**.
2. In the action panel click on **MedChart**, the details of the patient's existing medication orders will be displayed in the bottom half of the screen (as per above). It's important to note that the view will default to display current medication orders. To view discontinued or the patient's full MedChart history click on the down arrow next to Current and select as appropriate.
