# Steps to Confligure MedChart in Profile

## Step 1: Obtain the Required Licenses

To use MedChart in Profile, you need to first obtain the Medication license module

Go to **Organisation / Preferences / Technical / Licensed Modules**to see if the license module has been obtained or not.

Contact Intrahealth at [help@intrahealthc.om](mailto\:help@intrahealthc.om) to obtain the license number for these modules if it has not been obtained.

## Step 2: Enable Role Actions for MedChart Users

The MedChart role actions need to be enabled for any user of MedChart. Complete the following instructions to enable the MedChart role actions in Profile:

Go to **Organisation / Roles&#xA0;**

Select the User types that require MedChart access

Search for the MedChart role actions in the **Find&#xA0;**&#x73;earch bar.

Grant and enable the MedChart actions for users that need to:

- view the MedChart list
- use and see items in CareFlow
- prescribe and/or administer medications
- be involved in the admission medication reconciliation process
- be involved with any inpatient management and inpatient medication managementThis is done by right clicking the action and select **Grant**. The **Net Actions&#xA0;**&#x63;olumn should now show a green circle raised above a hand.

Step 3: Configure the Short Codes for the MedChart Medication Order Views
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

The MedChart Short Codes need to be configured in Profile so that they can reflect your prescribing inpatient workflows.

The steps below will cover how to configure the MedChart Short Codes in Profile:

1. Go to **Maintain/ Short Codes**
2. The following Short Codes need to be configured based on your organisation's individual workflows:

## Step 4: Configure the Filters in the MedChart View 

The filters in MedChart can be configured to adjust the presentation, and what is included in the various windows of the MedChart view, as seen below.

The following steps will show you how to configure the filters from the MedChart view:

Click on **Edit&#xA0;**&#x77;hich is located on the top, right hand corner of the **MedChart** view in the patient's **Medical Record**.

The **MedChart Filters&#xA0;**&#x77;indow will open. You'll notice there is a **Default** filter as seen in the image below.

Click **New&#xA0;**&#x74;o create a new filter. Add in the name of the filter in the **View Description**box. Some examples of potential useful filters are:

- Current Orders Past 30 Days
- Discontinued Medications
- Expiring and Expired Medications

Once you've added in your new filter names click on the first filter view you wish to configure - the chosen filter will appear in the **View Description&#xA0;**&#x62;ox.

Click on each of the tabs and adjust the the filter settings for each filter view according to your organisation's preferences:

1. **Filter&#xA0;**&#x54;abThe filter tab will adjust the views based on who ordered the medication, and the medication's status. Make selections based on your organisation's preferences. **Flag Tag** is used to signal when a medication needs review by a provider.

2. **Filter Dates&#xA0;**&#x54;abThe filter dates tab will narrow or expand the MedChart view by date. Make selections based on your organisation's preferences

3. **General&#xA0;**&#x54;abBased on your organisations preferences, the General tab will determine if and which type of interactions the clinical user will have flagged.

4. **Presentation Regular&#xA0;**&#x54;abThe presentation of the Regular Medications window in the MedChart view can be adjusted from the Presentation Regular tab. Certain columns can be selected, Display Names, width, size and justification of those columns can be adjusted, as per your organisation's needs. **Note:** Net new, additional columns cannot be added.

5. **Presentation Irregular&#xA0;**&#x54;abThe presentation of the PRN/Irregular window in the MedChart view can be adjusted from the Presentation Irregular tab. Certain columns can be selected, Display Names, width, size and justification of those columns can be adjusted, as per your organisation's needs. **Note:** Net new, additional columns cannot be added.

6. When you have updated each of the filter tabs, click **Update**, **Apply**, and **Close**. Your filters should now be configured, and saved based on your input.

## Step 5: Configure Preferences in Profile

To set defaults, turn on alerts, printing options, and set warnings, you'll need to configure certain preferences in Profile.

Go to **Organisation / Preferences / Scripts and Instructions**

1. Click on the **Administration&#xA0;**&#x74;ab
2. Add and validate that your frequencies are represented correctly - this will be dependent on your organisation's preferences. This relates to dose frequency in the MedChart Order window. See below:

The information you enter in the **Administration&#xA0;**&#x74;ab's **Frequency** drop-down is also reflected in the Careflow Administration window. See below:

3. The Order Starts on drop-down sets the default parameter for the MedChart Order window for when a medication needs to be initiated. Choose the option that relates best to your organisation's workflows.

4. Click on the **MedChart** tab. MedChart printing options are associated with our Forms functionality. Contact Intrahealth to discuss how to use Form templates in MedChart.
5. Once you've validated and filled out all of the necessary sections based on your organisations workflow preferences click on **Apply**, and **OK**.
6. The configuration process is now complete.
