--- title: CLINICAL - Cross Referencing Term Sets slug: portal-sub/clinical-cross-referencing-term-sets docTags: createdAt: 2026-03-04T12:03:22.768Z --- A 'Term Set' is a set of clinical codes, such as Read or ICD10. These codes are used when setting up forms, measure items and disease codes. Each measure item, disease code item or item in a form is linked with a particular clinical code in a term set, saved in the database. You can cross-reference between different Term sets to establish continuity across imported data and data entered into Profile. Cross-referencing will also enable you to plot results from different laboratories onto one graph. ### Cross Reference Creation 1. Go to **Maintain/Term Cross References** from the main menu. Click **+** to create a new reference terms set. 3. The Term Set window allows you to search the database for the **Parent Concept**. Enter the term in the **Search** field. Use the field descriptions as a guide.
