# CDS Import of Patient Files

This document describes how to import patient files that have been exported from Profile or another EMR product.

## Requirements

Open source [OpenPGP](https://www.openpgp.org/) software will be used for data decryption and must be installed on the user’s PC.   Windows users need to download the Gpg4win software.

## Support Services

The Import functionality has been designed to allow users to perform the patient import process. If users have questions or concerns, they can create a ticket or contact Intrahealth support directly.

If the customer would prefer Intrahealth to complete the patient Export/Import process for them, they can request a quote for the cost of the activity through Intrahealth support.

## Preparation for Import

1. Copy the zipped exported files from the media device to a secure location that can be accessed by the Profile import tool.
2. Unzip the compressed file folder using the password that was used to access the media device. The folder will include:

- Patient Data
- Audit Log Information (if selected during export process)
- Export Event Log
- ReadMe.txt

## Import of Patient Files

1. Go to Organisation/Import & Export/Patient Import from the main menu.
2. Select one of the following\:Import file – use this option if importing an individual patient file from within a provider’s patient data folder.Import folder – use this option to import a provider’s patient data folder containing all their patients.
3. Browse to the location containing the files for import and press OK.

## Decryption and Decompression of Files

To decrypt and decompress the data, Profile will use the open source [OpenPGP](https://www.openpgp.org/) software installed on the user’s PC.

While processing the CDS Import, the user will be prompted to enter a password for file decryption. This is the password that was entered for encryption during the Export process.

Once the password is entered, the OpenPGP software will perform the decryption and decompression of the files and import them into Profile.

The user will receive a confirmation when the process is complete.

Press OK to view the Import Logs window. The Import Logs will indicate if there were any errors on import.

The ImportEventLog file is also saved in the folder that was used for import.

## Deletion of patient export files

Once the import process is complete, Intrahealth recommends permanently deleting all patient export files from both the media device that was used for export, as well as the file location used for the patient import.
