In Profile 8.8, when a patient is sent an appointment reminder by SMS or email, they have the ability to confirm the appointment using an unique external web address that is automatically generated for each appointment. This resolves issues with the previous approach of having the patient reply with "1" or "2" in cases where more than one patient shared the same mobile number, or if the patient has multiple appointments in a short period of time.

The SMS sent to a patient will include a link to the web page. If the patient clicks on it, they'll be sent to a page that shows the appointment details, and given the option to **Confirm **or **Cancel **the appointment. 

## Configuration Steps

1. Go to **Organization/Preferences/Setup/Internet/Messages**
2. Set the Organisation Web URL to the public URL used for Profile HTTPS login. This is available for all hosted customers. Self-hosted customers may require additional configuration.

3. Update the **Appointment Reminder **message template to include the new print variable «Letter.Context.Appointment.ConfirmationWebURL».
4. Click the **Configure Appointment Reminders **button. The** System Tasks** window will open and create the the **Patient Messages for Appointment Reminders** system task if it doesn't yet exist.See [https://help.intrahealth.com/en/support/solutions/articles/6000261887-configure-appointment-reminder-rules](docId\:vKvYMNj9Y6BYGM5UzI8NL) for more details about configuring Appointment Reminders. 
5. Double-click the **Patient Messages for Appointment Reminders** system task to open it.
6. Update the **Message Template** for each appointment reminder rule to include the new «Letter.Context.Appointment.ConfirmationWebURL» print variable.

## Confirmation and cancellation preferences

Administrators can set preferences for patients using OnTheGo Profiles to control if they have the ability to confirm or cancel appointments. For example, disabling the ability to cancel if the appointment is occurring in 24 hours or less.

### Enable and disable booking confirmations and cancellations

1. Go to **Organisation/Preferences/Setup/Patient Online Booking**
2. Under **OnTheGo Profiles**, select the profile type you wish to edit and press

- To disable booking confirmations, change the **Allow Confirmation** field to **No**
- To disable booking cancellations, change the **Allow Cancellation **field to **No**

**       **3. Press **OK **to save changes.

**       **4. Under **Alter Patient/Internet/OnTheGo Profile**, make sure the patient is listed under the profile with the correct confirmation and cancellation preferences

### Change Maximum Confirmation Time and Minimum Cancellation Time

The time period in which a patient can confirm and cancel an appointment can also be altered using OnTheGo Profiles.

1. Go to **Organisation/Preferences/Setup/Patient Online Booking**
2. Under **OnTheGo Profiles**, select the profile type you wish to edit and press

3. Change the value next to the **Maximum Confirmation Time (Days) **field. The number will refer to the maximum number of days under which a patient can confirm an appointment. For example, setting the value to 7 will prevent patients from confirming an appointment until at least 7 days before the appointment time.

4. Change the value next to **Minimum Cancellation Time (Hours)**. The number will refer to the minimum amount of hours under which a patient can cancel an appointment. For example, setting the value to 24 will prevent patients from cancelling an appointment within 24 hours before the appointment time.
5. Press **OK **to save changes.
6. Under **Alter Patient/Internet/OnTheGo Profile**, make sure the patient is listed under the profile with the correct confirmation and cancellation preferences
