New embedded observations can be created, which recognize values when typed into an encounter note.

Example: Height^55^ will register as Height: 150 cm and will automatically populate into areas using the same concept term (HRI) (^ indicates a space).

1. Go to: **Maintain/Templates/Health Record Collection Templates**
2. Select the **Reference** folder.

3. Double click **Embedded Observations** in the **Content of Reference** panel.
4. Click the **New** dropdown arrow and select the appropriate term in the Term Selector.

5. In the **Context** tab, select the appropriate dimension and additional values as required.

6. Press **OK** to save.
7. Go to **Organization/Preferences/General/Clinical**. In the **Encounter** tab, click the \[...] icon in the **Inline Editing Objects** field and re-load the Embedded Observation category list by double clicking on the appropriate folder.

8. Log out and then log back in.
9. Test the new embedded observation by going to a New Encounter and using the full **Term** name as a trigger\:Example: Weight^55^ to generate Weight: 55 kg (^ indicates a space).

**Note**

Terms may need to be cross referenced to auto populate across the EMR.
:::

:::hint{type="danger"}
**Note**

Shortcut terms can be created (ie: BP for Blood Pressure), but a new term needs to be created and linked as a synonym.
